The End of an Era with the Volkswagen Passat

August 11th, 2021 by

Volkswagen announced that the 2022 VW Passat will be the final year for this model in the US. The vehicle is going out with a bang as a special Passat Limited Edition will be introduced.

The end of the manufacture of the Passat is part of the transition for the Chattanooga plant to building electric vehicles. This will be a significant change for the company, which has been making some version of the model for almost 50 years.

A total of 1973 Limited Edition Passat models will be built, which coincides with the year the first model was launched in Germany. The design of this model pays tribute to the history of the Passat while recognizing how employees have contributed to its development.

What to Expect with the Passat Limited Edition

This model will feature four color options, which are unique to the Limited Edition. Each color comes with a corresponding number, which has a special meaning from the past. Aurora Red Metallic is one color with a Titan Black cabin for 411 units. This number represents the original production code for the vehicle.

Racing Green Metallic features a Mauro Brown cabin with number 423, which stands for the area code for Chattanooga. Pure White with Mauro Brown interior will have 524 units, which was the opening date of May 24 for the Chattanooga plant in 2011. Platinum Grey Metallic is paired with Titan Black interior with the number 615 for six generations of Passats imported to the US, one generation being assembled in Chattanooga, and five decades of sales in the US.

Part of the design for the Passat Limited Edition is distinct wheels and unique mirror caps. You’ll roll along in style on 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with 15 spokes. LED headlights lighten the night while the advanced front-lighting system enhances visibility. Load your cargo with the Easy open trunk where you’ll find ample space. Seat tags include “1 of 1973” on one side to mark the number in the lineup. On the other side is “VW Chattanooga Since 1911”. Cupholders feature aerial maps of the city along with a drawing of the factory in Chattanooga.

Comfort sport seats off memory for the driver seat with Vienna leather. Heated front and rear seats keep you warm on chilly days. These models include Discover Media infotainment and navigation to help you find your destination. Enjoy your favorite tunes with Fender Premium Audio. Technology keeps you safe and in control with Park Distance Control and park assist.

A Longstanding Tradition

The first Passat models were introduced under the name of Dasher, which later became the Quantum. The Passat name was introduced in 1990 to the US with the first six generations being imported from Europe.

In 2011, the Passat was first assembled in the US at the Chattanooga plant. The 2012 model was designed specifically for the US, larger than previous models. Since then Passat has been exported to numerous countries around the world. You can see the Passat yourself at Volkswagen of Inver Grove.
