Introducing The New Volkswagen ID. Buzz

With gas prices soaring, all-electric vehicles are coming out of every auto manufacturer’s design team. VW is bringing back the iconic VW Microbus with an all-new and exciting full-electric version. The VW ID. Buzz is soon to hit the shores of the U.S.A sometime in 2024. A magically modern design, the new microbus promises fun, excitement, and a whole new driving experience for the next generation.

What drives the BUS

With the original VW micro van or Microbus bus, the chassis sat atop a VW beetle platform, using the same air cooled flat four rear mounted engine. Following pretty much the same formula, VW used the already popular ID4 electric crossover as the platform for the new minivan. Rumors indicate the Buzz’s all electric powertrain will come in a single motor rear-wheel drive and a dual motor all-wheel drive option estimated to crank out 201 horse power and 229 ft.-lb. of torque on the single motor option and 295 horses out of the dual-motor version.

EV Battery & Range

The VW ID.Buzz’s range will vary, depending on the version offered. Currently the estimations claim the EV range somewhere around the 270-to-340-mile mark depending on which drive train is chosen. The VW bus can be charged inductively or by a charging station. VW boasts that the ID.Buzz can charge from 5% to 80% in just 30 minutes with the use of a fast charge system.

Comfort and Connectivity

Possible the most appealing attribute to the ID.Buzz is its spacious and configurable interior. Starting with a 10-gauge instrument cluster and the out of this galaxy steering wheel, the front seats have adjustable armrests as well as tables that fold out of the backrest for the rear seat passengers. The center console between the front seats is also removable. VW says the U.S version will feature third row seating capable of accommodating 7 passengers.

The VW van’s infotainment system operates through a touchscreen that sprouts from the middle of the dashboard. The standard comes in a 10-inch version but a 12.0-inch display is optional. The new bus will most likely come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a subscription-based Wi-Fi hotspot and some type of rear-seat entertainment system.

Safety and Driver-Assistance

The ID.Buzz will be offered with a selection of standard and optional driver-assistance technology including forward collision warning and emergency braking, standard lane departure warning and lane keeping assist, plus adaptive cruise control. VW also offers a memory function for the self-park assist that is said to work on pre-saved routes.
