The Magic of More Power

The Tiguan SEL R-Line Turbo delivers added power thanks to the refined and upgraded version of the EA888 evo5 turbocharged four-cylinder 2.0-liter TSI engine. This beast delivers 268 horsepower and an added 207-foot pounds of torque. The highlights of the upgrade process include a larger turbocharger to create higher boost pressure and a lower compression ratio. To ensure the engine is capable of putting the added power to use, the pistons and connecting rods have been strengthened, and a nitride crankshaft has been installed. The new beefier pistons are now oil-cooled. Finally, there is now a variable value lift on the intake and exhaust sides, maximizing the benefit of the Miller-cycle tech for superior fuel economy.

In the lower portion of the engine, the fuel injection pressure has increased by just under 2,200 psi. Added tweaks have also reduced the friction in the chain drive mechanism for the cams and oil pump for added efficiency. All these upgrades can be experienced to the fullest thanks to pairing this new and commanding engine with an 8-speed automatic transmission and paddle shifters mounted on the steering wheel for the feel of a true race-capable car.

To add further impact to the brawny engine, the new Tiguan SEL R-Line Turbo has also gone on a bit of a diet to remove 170 pounds from around the body. This slim down is accompanied by a redesign of the QB evo platform and sheet metal to feature a new and sporty rear end with a shorter overhang and more expressive and powerful nose. The turbo LED light bar and illuminated logo add a signature look that grabs attention and the desire to own this top-of-the-line piece of German engineering.

In the Tiguan SEL R-Line Turbo cabin, the features and finishes are nothing but the best. Genuine American walnut trim, Varenna leather upholstery, and a fully wrapped and double-stitched center console are just a few of the details that let buyers grasp the level of planning and work that went into creating this truly top-of-the-line compact SUV.
