Fitting Your Car Seats into the 2022 Volkswagen ID.4

September 28th, 2022 by

If you have kids, one of the first things to consider with a new SUV is how the car seats will fit. You don’t want to have a fight every time you must put the seat in or fasten your kids in place. The 2022 Volkswagen ID.4 offers ample space for every passenger, including your littlest ones.

The 2022 Volkswagen ID.4 seats five and is roomier in the rear seat than what it might suggest at first glance. When looking at how car seats fit into this SUV, you must consider the forward and rear-facing convertible seats, the infant seat, latch, and booster seats.

Grading the 2022 VW ID.4

The 2022 Volkswagen ID.4 received a grade of A for fitting the various types of car seats into the rear row. It’s easy to set up the latch with two lower anchors housed in hinged plastic covers that are body-colored, making them easier to see. Three top-tether anchors are located on the back of the seat, with outboard anchors located about a third of the way down. The middle anchor sits by the base of the seat.

It was easy to connect the infant seat to the anchors. Even taller people will have plenty of room in the front seat with the infant seat right behind them. The same is true for the rear-facing convertible seat. It was easy to install with plenty of legroom left for the front passenger.

To fit the forward-facing convertible seat inside, you will need to lift the head restraint. The seat will then fit in with no problems connecting it to the lower anchors as well as the top anchor.

The head restraint is also raised for the booster seat to ensure proper placement. Kids should have no problem buckling themselves in.

Fit the Family in the ID.4

To get a grade of A, there must be plenty of room for the car seat to fit in the rear row of the vehicle. The car seat can’t impact legroom for either the driver or front passenger. Connections must be easy to find, and it should be easy to connect to the latch and tether anchors. The seat must fit with the head restraint.

This grading was performed by Cars.com and certified child safety seat installation technicians. They use various name-brand car seats in each category. Vehicle seats are set for a six-foot driver and a passenger that is somewhat shorter. The booster seat is placed behind the driver, and the other car seats are positioned behind the front passenger.

Part of the testing involved setting up a forward-facing convertible seat in the middle with a booster on one side and an infant seat on the other. This allows buyers to know if they can fit three children who are all still in car seats into the vehicle.
