Volkswagen’s ID.4 EV lands a place on Autotrader’s 10 Best Electric Vehicles for 2022

May 29th, 2022 by

Volkswagen’s first all-electric compact SUV has been named on Autotrader’s list of 10 Best Electric Vehicles for 2022. The ID.4 is Volkswagen’s first global EV, showing off the brand’s decades-long stature for incorporating performance and value in the form of a new kind of electric vehicle.

Built on Volkswagen’s modular electric drive matric, or MEB, the ID.4 competes in the world’s largest market segment of compact SUVs. This EV has an 82kWh battery pack with a rear-mounted AC motor that generates 201 horsepower and 229 lb-ft of torque. An output of 295 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque can be achieved with the all-wheel-drive model, which adds an electric motor to the front axle. The ID.4 Pro AWD gets an estimated range of 251 miles, while the ID.4 Pro gets up to 280 miles on a single charge. To help inspire range assurance, the 2022 Volkswagen ID.4 comes with three years of limitless 30-minute charging sessions.

Before being placed on Autotrader’s list, the editorial team considered factors like ride and handling, powertrains, interior, exterior, comfort, tech features, and price. The Autotrader team also conducted research on handling, build quality, backing up, parking, lane-changing, acceleration, and materials quality. Editors used a 5-point rating scale, with 5 being the best, and vehicles up for consideration had to receive a minimum of 4 out of 5 points. Only all-electric vehicles were allowed on this year’s list for the first time ever.

The editors at Autotrader have said. ‘’ We know a host of Volkswagen electric cars are coming…but, the 2022 Volkswagen ID.4 has impressed our team with its smooth integration of function with form. It retains its essential ‘VW-ness’ even without a combustion engine.” “Volkswagen ID.4 is like an Apple device on wheels. The interior is modern and functional, and the exterior is attractive without being flashy. Like other VWs, the ID.4 is fun to drive”, says Associate Editor Rob Nestora.

The structure presented for the 2022 Volkswagen ID.4 is simple with four trims and one package. With features normally found on higher trims, the entry-level Pro model is well fitted for its value. The RWD Pro model pricing starts at $41,230 MSRP, and $44,910 for the Pro AWD. Rear-wheel drive Pro S models are priced at $45,730, and all-wheel-drive models are priced at $49,410.

Andrew Savvas, Executive Vice President, Sales, and Marketing, Volkswagen of America, says, “Volkswagen has engineered and priced the ID.4 in a way that will win the hearts and minds of SUV owners who are ready to go electric and want to love Volkswagen once more. We are honored to be recognized by Autotrader among other organizations that have also committed to going electric.”
