Volkswagen Passat named Cars.com's Best of 2012
Passat TDI picked as Eco-Friendly Car of the Year

The editors of automotive classified website Cars.com have named the 2012 Volkswagen Passat as the Best of 2012, recognizing the Passat as the most impressive new vehicle of the year from a field of about 70 brand-new or redesigned cars for the 2012 model year.

"The family-sedan segment is one of the most competitive, and new entrants raise the bar each year," the site stated in announcing the award. "For the 2012 model year, the Passat becomes one of the benchmarks in its class by delivering a level of quality, comfort, roominess and value that's unmatched. To say the Passat is impressive is an understatement."

The Cars.com editors cited the expanded size, increased amenities, enhanced drivability and lowered base price of the redesigned Passat as the primary factors in reaching its decision.

"There's no question the (family-sedan) segment is filled with good cars, but what separates the Passat is its ability to exceed expectations at a price that's less than expected," the site stated. "With car shoppers more concerned with value over flashiness, the Passat is the right car at the right time - and Cars.com's Best of 2012."

Additionally, the Cars.com editors chose the 2012 Volkswagen Passat TDI as their Eco-Friendly Car of the Year, recognizing vehicles that are earth-friendly as well as stylish and comfortable.

"The Passat TDI wins this award both for its execution and because of what it represents: an efficient alternative to hybrids - whose driving quirks are objectionable to some buyers - and to plug-in cars that are priced higher and have inherent limitations," the site stated.
